FIRST LOOK – 1948 Chevrolet Crew Cab COE Custom “Decoliner” – BARRETT-JACKSON 2022 SCOTTSDALE

The 1948 Chevrolet Crew Cab COE Custom “Decoliner” showcased at the Barrett-Jackson 2022 Scottsdale event is a true marvel of automotive craftsmanship. This unique vehicle is the culmination of over a decade and 10,000 hours of dedicated work, resulting in a stunning show truck that can be considered a rolling piece of art.

Starting its life as a modest 3-ton delivery box truck, the Decoliner pays homage to the glorious era of automotive styling. Its design boasts a distinctive silhouette that immediately distinguishes it from anything else on the road. To achieve this one-of-a-kind appearance, the truck underwent extensive modifications using aluminum and composite materials. The fenders alone required a staggering 1,000 hours of meticulous craftsmanship.

The Decoliner seamlessly combines form and function by incorporating a spacious hidden storage compartment for luggage or golf clubs, along with a fifth wheel hitch for towing purposes. The truck rides on a custom show-condition aluminum tandem axle chassis meticulously engineered by renowned builder Dale Gerry Street Rods. To enhance its size and proportions, the factory steel GM cab was stretched, and two additional original Chevrolet doors were skillfully installed by hand.

Among its exterior features, the Decoliner showcases a 1955 Chevrolet front bumper and classic American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. Powering this magnificent vehicle is a GM crate 502ci Ram Jet V8 engine, paired with a Gearstar Performance 4L80E overdrive automatic transmission. To ensure optimal performance, a Duramax radiator equipped with electric fans keeps the engine running cool. The massive engine is supported by a Dale Gerry front cross member with independent suspension, a custom aluminum Ford 9-inch housing, and Dutchman axles in the rear. The truck’s ride quality is further enhanced by a computer-controlled, fully adjustable air-ride suspension with Alden shocks.

Inside the cab, the Decoliner boasts a luxurious custom Italian red leather Lee Baxter interior. The dashboard is a unique feature, incorporating a custom Chrysler Windsor “Astro Dome” design, complete with Dakota Digital gauges. The truck also offers modern amenities such as Vintage Air climate control and a custom audio system by Andres Car Audio.

With its extensive use of billet and one-off parts, and an unwavering commitment to detail throughout the build process, the Decoliner not only stands out in any crowd but also ensures exceptional reliability. In fact, this remarkable vehicle made the journey from Canada to California, demonstrating its roadworthiness and dependability.

The 1948 Chevrolet Crew Cab COE Custom “Decoliner” is a testament to the passion and dedication of its builders. This unique show truck showcases the artistry and engineering prowess that can transform a simple box truck into a captivating automotive masterpiece. Its striking design, powerful performance, and luxurious interior make it a true standout in the world of custom vehicles.
