Azrael (2024): The Young Girl and the Fight Against Fate

“Azrael” is an American action horror film directed by E.L. Katz and written by Simon Barrett. It stars Samara Weaving in the title role, along with Vic Carmen Sonne and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. The story takes place in a world where humans live in absolute silence. A religious community pursues Azrael, a young girl who has escaped from captivity. Captured and prepared for sacrifice to an evil force in the deep woods, Azrael is determined to fight for her life, against both the community and the ancient darkness that lurks.

The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 9, 2024, and was later released in theaters in the United States on September 27, 2024. Currently, “Azrael” is not available on streaming platforms such as Netflix or HBO Max. However, since the film is distributed by IFC Films and Shudder, it is expected to be available on Shudder in the near future, possibly in late 2024 or early 2025.
