Travis Kelce Makes Special Cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 Trailer with Adam Sandler
On December 25, Netflix and Adam Sandler released the much-anticipated first trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, sparking excitement among fans. The trailer features a special cameo by NFL superstar and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. In his brief appearance, Kelce delivers one of the trailer’s few lines, where he greets Happy with, “It’s great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore,” portraying either an executive or hotel staff member.
This cameo marks another step in Kelce’s growing Hollywood career, which already includes a role in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie and hosting the Prime Video game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?
The sequel arrives 29 years after the original, which debuted in 1996. The first film followed Happy Gilmore (Sandler), a hockey player with anger management issues who turns to golf to save his grandmother’s house, quickly becoming a fan favorite in the golfing world with his brash, unconventional style. In the sequel, Julie Bowen will reprise her role as Happy’s love interest, and Christopher McDonald will return as the rival golfer, Shooter McGavin.
In addition to the returning stars, Happy Gilmore 2 will introduce new faces, including Travis Kelce, Margaret Qualley, Nick Swardson, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), and Benny Safdie, who previously worked with Sandler on Uncut Gems. The trailer also teases a dramatic face-off between Gilmore and McGavin in a graveyard, potentially marking a poignant moment involving Happy’s late mentor, Derek “Chubbs” Peterson (played by Carl Weathers, who passed away in February at the age of 76).
Sandler, who has been working hard on the script, shared his excitement for the project during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “We didn’t want to let anybody down,” he said. “People have been asking me for a long time to do Happy Gilmore 2, and I always said, ‘Nah, I’ll only let you down.’ But then my buddy Tim Herlihy and I came up with this idea, and we’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off to make a movie you’ll love.”
Herlihy, a longtime collaborator of Sandler, co-wrote Billy Madison, The Waterboy, and The Wedding Singer. Regarding Kelce’s involvement, Sandler praised him as “a big, handsome guy… funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud, and he’s so funny.”
Happy Gilmore 2 is slated to premiere in 2025, though the exact release date is yet to be revealed. Fans can expect another wild and hilarious ride with Happy and his iconic antics.
